چکیده

The study of a UV-VIS spectrum of 8-hydroxyquinoline (8HQ) in different solvents can provide relevant information concerning the influence of the medium on the electronic structure of the solute or the nature and strength of the specific solvent-solute intraor intermolecular interactions. The electronic absorption spectra of 8-hydroxyquinoline in various solvents have very different features due to dimeric or monomeric form in a particular environment. Thus, we have performed a quantum chemical semi-empirical PM3 calculations optimization of 8HQ and corresponding tautomer as single and dimeric form in free space and surrounded by the first solvation sphere. The dipole moment, polarizability and other physical parameters of these molecular systems were calculated. These results are useful tools in predicting optical properties of new materials which include hydroxyquinoline and explain the change in UV-VIS spectrum of 8HQ in different solvents.

8-Hydroxyquinoline as a building block for artificial receptors: binding preferences in the recognition of glycopyranosides.

8-Hydroxyquinoline-based receptors 1-3, containing a trisubstituted triethylbenzene core, were prepared and their binding properties towards glycosides were evaluated. (1)H NMR and fluorescence titrations as well as binding studies in two-phase systems, such as dissolution of solid carbohydrates in apolar media and phase transfer of sugars from aqueous into organic solvents, revealed β- vs.α-an...

Allelopathy and Anti-mitotic Effects of Cuscuta campestris and Cuscuta monogyna Extracts on Plant Cell Division

Some natural compounds of plants including phenols and alkaloids induce mitosis depressive that are blocked cell division. Field dodder (Cuscuta campestris Yunck.) and eastern dodder (Cuscuta monogyna Vahl.) are the most widespread obligatory parasitic species. In the present study, end of summer 2015, field dodder and eastern dodder are collected from Alhagi maurorum Medik. host and Vine (Viti...

8-Bromo-7-hydroxyquinoline as a photoremovable protecting group for physiological use: mechanism and scope.

Two-photon excitation (2PE) of "caged" biomolecules represents a powerful method to investigate the temporal and spatial relevance of physiological function in real time and on living tissue, because the excitation volume can be restricted to 1 fL. Additionally, low-energy IR light is used, which minimizes tissue destruction and enables deeper penetration into tissue preparations. Exploitation ...

Structural and photophysical properties of trianionic nine-coordinated near-IR emitting 8-hydroxyquinoline-based complexes.

Two building blocks, 2-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)quinoline-8-ol (8-hydroxyquinoline-2-tetrazole) (H(2)hqt) and 8-hydroxyquinoline-2-carboxylic acid (H(2)hqa) provide convenient dianionic tridentate O,N,N- and O,N,O-chelating units containing the 8-hydroxyquinoline chromophore. These ligands form tris-chelate tris-anionic complexes [Ln(hqa)(3)]K(3) and [Ln(hqt)(3)]K(3) in water at pH = 12. At lower pH p...

Experimental and Theoretical Study of O-Substituent Effect on the Fluorescence of 8-Hydroxyquinoline

The synthesis and characterization of different ether and ester derivatives of 8-hydroxyquinoline have been made. UV-visible and fluorescence spectra of these compounds have revealed spectral dependence on both solvent and O-substituent. The fluorescence intensity of ether derivatives revealed higher intensity for 8-octyloxyquinoline compared with 8-methoxyquinoline, whereas those of ester deri...
